Academic Context

The correlations shown are based on meta-analytic research, primarily McCrae & Costa (1989). These researchers found substantial overlap between MBTI dimensions and Big Five traits, though the frameworks were developed independently.

The Big Five (also called OCEAN or Five-Factor Model) is considered the most empirically validated personality framework in academic psychology. MBTI, while widely used, has different origins in Jungian typology.

Neither framework is "correct" - they serve different purposes. Big Five excels in research contexts with its continuous scales, while MBTI provides memorable types useful for self-reflection and discussion.
